Baseball

Minnesota West 12, Western Technical College 7

WORTHINGTON — Axell Espino and Robert Reyes had three hits each for Minnesota West in a Saturday afternoon 12-7 victory over Western Technical College.

Jobeth Diaz, Fernando Marte and Yohan Hiraldo scored two hits apiece.

Espino, Diaz, Marte and Mikey Garcia all hit home runs. Espino had a double and Reyes hit two doubles.

Bluejays’ catcher Andy Wurster had two RBIs. Diaz and Reyes had three RBIs.

Ian Scherbring pitched four and two-thirds innings. He allowed eight hits, six walks and three earned runs. He also struck out five.

Nicolas Espitia pitched two and one-third innings in relief. He struck out four, allowed one hit and one earned run.

Western Technical College 14, Minnesota West 3

WORTHINGTON — Seven errors by the Minnesota West Bluejays did not help the home team in the second game of a double header against Western Technical College. The Cavaliers won by a score of 14-3.

Minnesota West had just four hits in the game. Daniel Castro, Jowendley Allee, Jobeth Diaz and Yohan Hiraldo all scored hits. Allee and Castro hit home runs. Hiraldo hit a double.

Jose Navarro was the lone Bluejay to take base via a walk.

Caleb Villarreal and Mikey Garcia split the pitching duties. Villarreal pitched three and one-third innings. He had nine hits, five earned runs and three walks.

Garcia pitched one and two-thirds innings. He allowed two hits and struck out two.

Softball

Minnesota West 3, Riverland 2

AUSTIN — Three runs scored in the sixth inning by the Minnesota West Lady Jays pushed the team to victory over host Riverland.

Julia Schmoker pitched for the Lady Jays. She also led off the sixth inning rally with a double.

Emily Dunlop reached first base on an error which scored Schmoker.

Haillie Morin belted a single and Kiarra Danielson hit a two-run double down the left field line for the go-ahead run.

Makenzie Allen had three hits.

Riverland had two runs on seven hits.

AUSTIN — Five first inning runs propelled Riverland to a 9-3 victory over Minnesota West softball.

Kiarra Danielson had two hits and two RBIs for the Lady Jays. Taylor Ponto started on the mound but was replaced by Julia Schmoker after one and one-third innings.

Olivia Reilly had three RBIs for Riverland and two hits. Riverland had 14 hits.

The Lady Jays season is now over and the team finished with a 6-9 record.

Baseball

Western Technical College 21, Minnesota West 20

WORTHINGTON — Western Technical College topped Minnesota West in a game which featured 41 combined runs on 80 combined at-bats on Tuesday.

Fernando Marte hit two home runs and had five RBIs for the Bluejays. Jowendley Allee had a home run, a double and three RBIs. Daniel Castro hit a triple.

Jose Navarro had three RBIs. Robert Reyes and Jobeth Diaz had two RBIs. Reyes had five hits and scored four runs. Allee scored four runs.

Western Technical College won by scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

WORTHINGTON — Fernando Marte, Robert Reyes, Mikey Garcia and Daniel Castro all hit home runs for the Minnesota West Bluejays in a tight 15-13 loss to Western Technical College.

Marte had three hits and three RBIs. Yohan Hiraldo had three hits and scored two runs. Jose Navarro had two hits and scored two runs. Garcia had four RBIs.

Reyes and Hiraldo pitched for the Bluejays. Reyes started on the mound and went three and two-thirds innings. He gave up eight hits and struck out seven.

Hiraldo struck out three in two and one-third innings. He allowed eight hits and six earned runs.

The Bluejays host Riverland on Friday.
