Saturday Showdown: Honoring the 2023 Minnesota West MCAC Hall of Fame Inductees during Ladyjay Basketball Game

Join us in Worthington on Saturday, February 3 at 1 pm, as the Ladyjay basketball game against Anoka-Ramsey Community College will be announcing the latest inductees into the 2023 Minnesota West MCAC Hall of Fame during half-time. The class of inductees includes a distinguished coach and administrator, Jerry Jansen, and five former student-athletes who left a lasting mark on Minnesota West Community & Technical College.

Jerry Jansen, the backbone of the college's athletic department, had dedicated over three decades to the Bluejays. From his beginnings as an assistant football coach and head wrestling coach, Jansen's contributions were immeasurable. His record as head wrestling coach and subsequent awards, including being named NJCAA Wrestling's Man of the Year, showcased his commitment to excellence. Jansen's legacy extended beyond the wrestling mat when he assumed the role of men's athletic director, contributing significantly to the college's athletic programs. In 2012, after 15 years of service, Jerry Jansen retired, leaving behind a lasting impact and a legacy of dedication.

Among the standout student-athletes inducted, Ben Becker stood tall. Becker, a football sensation, dominated the field during the 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 seasons. His leadership as a team captain and his record-breaking rushing yards during the 2000 season solidified his place in Bluejays history. Becker's prowess extended beyond the field, as he led various community service projects, leaving an enduring legacy of excellence and compassion.

Justin Olsen, another Bluejays football player, left a mark during the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 seasons. Olsen set records for the most tackles in a single season and went on to serve in the Minnesota National Guard for 20 years. His dedication to community service earned him the Outstanding Community Service Award from Minnesota West. Today, Olsen is the proud owner of Olsen Electric, showcasing his leadership both on and off the field.

Justiss Scales, a dynamic linebacker, transferred to Minnesota West from the University of Minnesota, making a significant impact during the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 seasons. His leadership, on-field prowess, and community engagement earned him several awards, and he continued his football career at the University of South Dakota.

Jay Scheidt, a two-sport athlete, excelled as a quarterback for the football team and a baseball player for the Bluejays. Scheidt's achievements on the field, combined with his academic excellence, earned him multiple honors. His transition to Minnesota State Mankato marked the completion of a remarkable athletic career.

Joshua (TJ) Tiesler, a dual-sport athlete in football and basketball during the 1996-1997 and 1997-1998 seasons, showcased his skills as a quarterback. Tiesler's leadership, on-field success, and commitment to community service earned him recognition as a true ambassador for MCAC and Minnesota West Bluejay athletics.

The 2023 MCAC Hall of Fame class represented a diverse group of individuals united by their dedication, skill, and contributions to the conference's rich history. As their stories became a source of inspiration for future generations of student-athletes and a testament to the enduring spirit of collegiate athletics.
