Minnesota West Trio Shines in MCAC Women's Basketball Honors

In a season marked by exceptional talent, three standout players from Minnesota West Community & Technical College have earned honors in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) women's basketball division.

Leading the charge is Olivia Hayenga, sophomore guard, whose skills on the court have once again secured her the title of MCAC South Player of the Year. Hailing from Worthington, MN, Hayenga's exceptional performance this season has been nothing short of remarkable. A sophomore sensation, she averaged an impressive 22.8 points per game while boasting an impressive shooting percentage of 45.1% from the field and 77% from the free-throw line.

Hayenga's contributions extend far beyond scoring, as evidenced by her well-rounded statistics. In addition to her scoring, she amassed 102 steals, 151 assists, and 71 blocks throughout the season, demonstrating her versatility and defensive playing. Hayenga led the MCAC South Division in multiple categories, including field goals, free throws, rebounds, blocks, and total points in division games.

Joining Hayenga's achievements are her teammates Hattie DeVries and Audrey Drapeau. DeVries, a forward, has been recognized as a vital asset to the team, earning a well-deserved spot on the 1st Team All-Southern Division. Her contributions on both ends of the court have been instrumental in the team's success this season.

Meanwhile, Drapeau's stellar performance as a point guard has earned her an Honorable Mention distinction, further solidifying Minnesota West's dominance in the MCAC ranks. Together, these three exceptional athletes have showcased their skills and dedication to the game, garnering well-deserved recognition from the conference coaches.

Hayenga has also been named to the All-MCAC Team and the MCAC All-Defensive Team. This additional recognition solidifies her status as one of the conference's top players.

With their sights set on further success in the NJCAA Women Region 13B Tournament, these talented athletes are ranked #2 in the nation with a stellar 21-7 overall record and a 10-2 South Division record.

The Ladyjays will face Minnesota North College - Rainy River on Saturday, March 2, at 4 pm in their first game hosted at Anoka-Ramsey Community College. The game will be held in the Performance Gym on the Coon Rapids, MN campus.
