2024-2025 will mark the tenth season as head coach of the Lady Jays for former Worthington High School and Worthington Community College Lady Jay star, Rosalie (Moz) Hayenga. After taking over for the legendary coach Mike Fury, Coach Hayenga has had five 20 win seasons and is coming off a season for the ages where the Lady Jays were the 2024 NJCAA DIII NATIONAL CHAMPIONS. This team recorded 26 wins and only 7 losse. The previous year, Hayenga lead the Ladyjays again to the NJCAA National Championship game where they finished as the 2023 National Runner Up. In 2022 the Ladyjays were the Region XIIIB Champions and had a 4th place finish in the 2022 NJCAA National tournament. The LadyJays finished with a 23-6 record in 2017-2018, which won them a Southern Division Championship and the opportunity to host the Region XIII tournament. Hayenga has led the Lady Jays to the Region tournament every year in her tenure as head coach and continues to carry on the tradition of Lady Jay basketball. Under the direction of Coach Fury, she helped lead the Lady Jays to the 1992 State Championship, is the all-time assist leader, and is 6th all-time leading scorer in Lady Jay basketball history. In addition to earning All-State, All-Region and All-American honors, she was named the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) National Player of the Year in 1992. She completed her collegiate playing career at Moorhead State University where she was named to the 1995 All-American team and was also a 2012 Hall of Fame inductee.
Hayenga previously served as the assistant coach for the Lady Jays for 11 years and before that was an assistant basketball coach, women’s softball coach, women’s golf coach and instructor in the Sport and Recreation Management Program at the University of Minnesota-Crookston. She was also an assistant basketball coach at Moorhead State University. In addition to being the Lady Jays basketball coach, Hayenga serves as Women’s Athletic Director and is an instructor at Minnesota West in the Biology department.
