Over the past week, the USMC/USAW 16U and Junior National Tournament took place in Fargo, ND. Housed in the NDSU's Fargo Dome, Fargo Nationals (as it is commonly referred to) hosted both male and female athletes from all 50 states, making it one of the toughest high school wrestling competitions in the country.
The Bluejays had one of their own represent the state of Minnesota, incoming freshman Sam Rock. Sam is a native of Luverne with an impressive high school resume that includes numerous conference, regional, and state placements.
Sam competed in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman (international styles used at World and Olympic competitions) going 7-4 overall, and placing as high as top 32 out 256 of the countries best athletes in his weight and age category. Sam defeated opponents from Illinois, Michigan, Virginia, Utah, Kansas, Florida, and Pennsylvania.
Head Coach, Brayden Curry, commented on Sam's performance: "Sam has been working with us all summer in preparation for this tournament. He has a tremendous work ethic, complimented by a strong will to compete regardless of the score. His success at Fargo was no surprise to me, and we are extremely excited to see what he and his teammates will achieve in the coming season."
